Travel information by airport

Düsseldorf International Airport ( www.duesseldorf-international.de). This is by far the easiest airport to use when traveling to Rolduc. It has direct train (S-Bahn) connections to Düsseldorf Central Station. From there trains run either directly to Herzogenrath (these are called Regional Express or RE trains to Aachen) or with a stopover at Mönchengladbach. Check the schedule at www.db.de. At Herzogenrath we will be waiting to bring you to the Monastery.

Schiphol Airport Amsterdam ( www.schiphol.nl).. This airport has a train station right below, but traveling to the conference site takes time and is not straightforward. Those of you who will visit Amsterdam are likely to arrive here though (from Schiphol it is only 15 minutes into Amsterdam center by train), so we will give the travel instructions anyhow. When you arrive at Schiphol airport make your way into the main arrival hall and follow the signs for the train station, which is one floor down. In the main arrival hall you will find the ticket counters and you will have to buy a ticket to Heerlen. Take the train to Duivendrecht, which is only 10 minutes away from Schiphol. Here you will have to change trains. Go to the upper floor and board the train to Sittard (once per hour) or Heerlen (once per hour). Of note, this train departs from Amsterdam Central Station so if your journey starts here board the same train. If you are on the train to Sittard, you will have to get out in Sittard and connect to a regional train to Heerlen (15 min), if you are already in the train to Heerlen this is obviously not required. In Heerlen, you make your way out of the station to the pick up area at the city center side (centrum), where we will pick you up. You can check the train times from Amsterdam to Heerlen at www.ns.nl.  It will be a lot easier to rent a car at the airport, especially when you travel with others, but it will be more expensive. For rental agencies check www.schiphol.nl .

Köln-Bonn Airport ( www.koeln-bonn-airport.de). This airport is served by some low cost airlines like Easyjet. From this airport you will have to take a train to Koln Hbf, from there trains run to Aachen Hbf. In Aachen you can take the RE train to Herzogenrath, which is only 10-15 minutes away. Again we will pick you up at the station.

Maastricht-Aachen Airport ( www.maa.nl). This airport is closest to the conference site, but is not served by a lot of low cost airlines (except Air Berlin) . From the airport you will first have to travel into Maastricht where you can take a train to Heerlen.

Eindhoven Airport ( www.eindhovenairport.nl). This airport is served by Ryan Air and is about 2 hour from the conference site. From the airport you will have to bus your way to Eindhoven Central Station. There you can get on the trains that run from Amsterdam to Heerlen/Sittard (see at Schiphol Airport Amsterdam).

Weeze Airport ( www.flughafen-niederrhein.de). This airport is also served by Ryan Air and about 2 hour from the conference site. This airport is connected to a railway station 5 minutes away. From here trains run every hour to Kleve where you can change trains to Herzogenrath.
